What Is a First Look?

Traditionally a first look is the first time spouses see each other on their wedding day. As well, this usually happens while walking down the aisle. More commonly today, this refers to the first time your "soon to be" will be seeing you, in your wedding dress, often before the ceremony itself.

Why Do People Do A First Look?

Seeing your significant other for the first time before saying your vows can be not only nerve wracking, but extremely emotional. Not always do couples want to share this intimate moment with everyone watching (as it traditionally would be coming down the aisle). Instead some couples opt for a more private first look between just the two of them. This can ease nerves, give a safe place for emotions and allow the couple some time to themselves before the ceremony.

This also allows for some photos prior to the ceremony and reception, which can be a time saver on your wedding day. It allows you to spend more time enjoying the actual wedding festivities when you can take portraits before the actual wedding! There are so many reasons to opt for a first look.

How to Schedule a First Look Into Your Day

A first look is best scheduled right after getting ready, well before your ceremony. An ideal flow from a photography point of view looks like this:

While a first look before your ceremony isn't necessary by any means, it can save you a lot of anxiety.
